The island opposite the Old Town

Lokrum by private boat, at your own pace

Lokrum is the green island right across from Dubrovnik’s Old Town. Instead of a busy ferry, see it from your own boat: swim in its quiet bays, then cruise back along the city walls with a drink in hand.

The short answer

How do you get to Lokrum from Dubrovnik?

There are two ways. The public ferry runs from the Old Town harbour if you want to walk around the island. For swimming in Lokrum’s bays and seeing the island and the city walls from the sea, take a private boat: the Old Town Panorama trip passes Lokrum, and I can add a swim stop there.

Dubrovnik Old Town and its walls in golden light

Lokrum, seen from the sea

Lokrum sits just off the Old Town, covered in pine forest and ringed by rocky bays. It is a protected nature reserve, which is why it stays so green right next to the busiest part of Dubrovnik.

From the water you see it at its best: the cliffs and coves on one side, and the full sweep of the city walls on the other.

Swimming near Lokrum

The rocky bays around Lokrum have clear, deep water that is perfect for a swim from the boat. On a private trip we stop where it is quietest, and you stay in the water as long as you like.

  • Swim straight from the boat
  • Clear water and rocky coves
  • Juice, wine, rakija and beer waiting on board

Lokrum and the Old Town at sunset

For the most beautiful light, combine Lokrum with the Sunset Getaway. As the sun goes down the walls turn golden, and on the way back you see the Old Town lights come on from the water.

Private boat or the Lokrum ferry?

Both are good choices, for different days.
